children's author - Breve biografia
- Writer and poet Violet Augusta Mary Frederica Kennedy-Erskine was born near Montrose, Scotland. She was an illegitimate descendant of King William IV. In 1894, she married Major Arthur Jacob, an officer in the British army, and she ccompanied him on his postings. Violet painted and kept travel journals with her observations of the countries and people she visited. Her only child was killed at the Battle of the Somme in 1916. Although much of her fiction is set in Scotland, Violet only returned to her native country after her husband died in 1936. Her best known work was the novel Flemington, set during the 1745 Jacobite rebellion.
