Sam Ward was quite a character, and Kathryn Allamong Jacob tells the story of his life in this fine biography. Ward's career as lobbyist extraordinaire is carefully reconstructed here, as is his vast network of correspondents and relationships. Completely enjoyable and very much worth a read if you're interested in Gilded Age political maneuverings.
