Pamela Fagan Hutchins

Whats not to like about a psychopathic serial killer on the loose in a small town in Wyoming. Thank God for recently returned and recruited officer Delaney Pace, the bad ass female heroine who takes no crap from anyone. If anyone can hunt this killer down it's her. This is a fast paced thriller which appears to be the first in a series. It does end in a bit of a cliff hanger so expect more from this author down the road. I wish the characters had been a little more fleshed out, especially Leo, but that might happen in the next book. A fun read.

Switchback (Patrick Flint #1), my second read/listen from author Pamela Fagan Hutchins, after reading/listening to Act One (What Doesn't Kill You #0.5). Well-written & enjoyable, a cute, clean entertaining mystery/thriller. I was given an Author's Direct copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. I was impressed and enjoyed the vocal variety & inflections of the author as narrator. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author, my only question is why did I wait so long to read this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Wish I could give another half star, but I can't honestly go to four stars.
I enjoyed the book. Plenty of action and suspense. Sometimes it seems ridiculous that so much could happen to one family, but it all tied together at the end.
Two big issues for me:
1. I absolutely could not stand Patrick (the father). He was a hard-headed know-it-all with little to no empathy for his family, particularly the wife and daughter. Good grief, man, give them a break! But he stuck to his "my way or the highway" plan and it didn't take long for me to dislike him along with his relationship and parenting skills. He was a jerk and I certainly wouldn't want him as my partner or my physician.
2. Audiobook narrator. Started out unimpressed by the reading and almost stopped listening because of the deadpan presentation. A good narrator can bring even stilted dialogue to life and pull the listener into the action. But this was a very stiff reading and often made it hard to focus. Found out in closing credits that it was read by the author. A professional narrator would have greatly improved the experience.
Not sure if I'll continue with this series.… (altro)
