Author Clair Hughes takes us on a tour throughout the mid-18th century up until the early twentieth century of clothing's and color's symbolic roles in British and American novels. Although primarily focused on females' clothing, the book does offer a chapter on male clothing in the 19th century as well as men's perceived view of women's clothing as writers.
