This was a Goodreads Giveaway. I thought the book was both interesting and informative. My only wish is that there was more focus on the west coast. This is of course not a fault of the book but I would love to read a west coast book too! My kids also looked through it and found it interesting...my daughter has since developed a fascination with bees. My only major complaint about the book however is that the binding is horrible. As soon as I opened the book, the binding started to come apart and pages started to fall out.… (altro)

It contains excellent information on identifying wild bees (and domestic honeybees, too) - including text, diagrams, and photos (all live bees and similar species are grouped together for easy comparison) and calls out key ID characteristics such as how they hold their wings when resting. With a hand lens I've made some IDs that I think are spot on. For each species there is foraging, nesting, mating and life cycle information, too. There's also a large section on plants you can have in your yard to support these important little girls. Oh and I had no idea that most of the non-hive/colony bees don't have stingers.… (altro)
