This is a book whose evocative description of Roman ruins will transport you in a day dream to what was and will never be again. So many interesting details to google for more information. The author writes of British archaeologists, historians, antiquarians, and philosophers who wrote about the Romans in Britain and emphasizes how British history has been unkind to its Roman roots preferring instead to laud the Anglo Saxons as the true founders of British society.

I love reading about the Greek Myths, they are so filled with tragedy and drama. Higgins' book will be enjoyed for those who have read any books, plays, or poetry before and it is a nice introduction to those who have read nothing before. I like how she has various female characters (Athena, Helen, Circe, Penelope, etc.) weaving at the loom and "weaving" the stories as well. I found early on that I didn't actually have enough interest in any of these aspects to truly enjoy this book, but I happened to have it from library during the shutdown, so finish it I did. Some interesting tidbits about various finds, writers, historical figures... honestly no disrespect to the author, I think it's well-written, just not a topic that held my attention for more than a few pages at a time.… (altro)

I really enjoyed this book. I love finding new books about the Greek Gods and the myths surrounding them. I enjoyed how this book was written and the concept of weaving. It was really well written. I feel like this is a new favorite when it comes to retellings. I highly recommend this to people who love retellings.
