This book had me frustrated and engaged at the same time. Parts of the story were fantastic and others were just odd (the pivotal Joey scene at the end in particular) so it was hard to rationalize the two.
However, the author did their job and did it well enough that I was invested in seeing this through. Were there parts of the story that were done differently? Yes. Yet, the story was still good which is why I'm rounding up to 4 stars.

Interesting start to this duet. It took me a bit to get invested but there was enough of a mystery that I wanted to keep going. I'm glad I did because the ending was filled with suspense.
