This book began when Hush Cantrell has the option of juvie or moving in with Mabel, after being caught stealing another time. She was supposed to help with the garden, but quickly, through Mabel and her new friend Desiree's help, she begins to see how she can heal from her own painful childhood and help others heal along the way. With some twists of fantasy that I didn't expect, it is a sweet coming-of-age story that shows how sometimes pain holds people back from their potential good, but sometimes pain is a teacher that helps us grow. Not a difficult read, though this is some strange southern dialect in it.… (altro)

Genuine Sweet is a poor girl who wants nothing more but a full belly. One day, her grandma tells her a secret of sorts. A magic she has in her for she is a fourth generation wish fetcher. The thing is that she can only grant wishes for other people, not herself. Genuine's life turns upside down as she starts granting wishes and learns a thing or two about her mother and life. I liked the storyline. Genuine was fun to follow around. I didn't like the way she talked at times because it just didn't seem... genuine. And I'm still iffy about how everything turned out in the end.… (altro)
