Just purchased this after hearing Foushee talk about the research and the journey that led to this book. An impressive compilation from both the traditional and scientific viewpoints written in plain language.
The first section is Anishinabe creation stories, their worldview, and important concepts. The next section introduces environmental contaminants (including dental mercury) and consequent health and behavior issues. The third section contains about a dozen of the interviews done during the nutrition survey. Tribal members talk about how much fish is in their diet, lifelong, and when they became aware of contaminants (if they are), their memories of getting their food from the wild. The English interview is followed by the same thing in Anishinabek. The final section is suggestions for what people can do: community based energy development, and caring for sacred plants for food & medicine security. There is an extensive biblography
