I read this book for an online course with the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC. It's a fascinating book which describes how the Book of the Dead could have been used, not as funerary text, but as the basis for literal initiation rites. In particular, he believes there is a site at Abydos which might have been used for this purpose. I think his theory has a lot to recommend it - the texts he quotes fit perfectly with his ideas of a ritual in which the initiate meets, and merges with, the god Osiris. I would recommend this to anyone interested in this subject. It's a short work, but very interesting.… (altro)
