How America lost Iraq di Aaron Glantz
This is a good short book by a reporter for Pacifica Radio. He describes what he saw after the American "occupation". He particularly repeats how what the people most resent about the Americans is the fact they did not restore electricity. This is still a timely book as it describes what is really happening now in Afghanistan. A short appendix of biographies is very useful.
Aaron Glantz is a naive young man who has allowed his passion to override his professionalism in this case. Glantz tells the story of the first year of the US occupation of Iraq from the point of view of normal Iraqis. Glantz works for a left wing American radio station and his stance is strongly anti-the occupation. This is not the problem. The problem lies in Glantz's emotional approach to what he laughingly refers to as journalism. Leading questions, opinionated asides, no attempt to gather both sides of any story and an incredible level of gullibility combine to transmute what could have been a valuable piece of reporting into a distasteful rant.… (altro)
