A lucid introduction to the principles of magnetism that is surprisingly useful even today, not just for historical purposes. Of course, Gilbert wrote it in 1600, so much of the science is out of date, but in general his observations on the properties and behavior of magnets still applies.
This is the classic 1892 translation, from the latin, of the 1600 original. A wonderful book.
