2984 From Despotism to Revolution 1763-1789, by Leo Gershoy (read 31 May 1997) This is a volume in the Series known as The Rise of Modern Europe. I found this heavy going most of the time. It has dulled my enthusiasm for reading the other volumes in the series. But this book did teach me something, though I felt the author was anti-Church and that disturbed me.
