Author Cornelia Maria Funke was born in Dorsten, Germany on December 10, 1958. After graduating from the University of Hamburg, she worked as a social worker for three years. After completing a course in book illustration at the Hamburg State College of Design, she worked as a children's book mostra altro illustrator and designed board games. Her desire to draw magical worlds and her disappointment over the way some stories were written inspired her to write her own children's books. Her book, The Thief Lord, won the Mildred L. Batchelder Award for the best translated children's book of the year and the Book Sense Book of the Year Award. She has also received the Book Sense Children's Literature Award for Inkheart and Inkspell. Funke has written numerous books including Dragon Rider, When Santa Fell to Earth, Igraine The Brave, Reckless, Saving Mississippi, Inkheart, Inkspell, Inkdeath, Igraine the Brave, and The Princess Knight. - Cornelia Funke was born in 1958 in the town of Dorsten in Westphalia, Germany. to Karl-Heinz and Helmi Funke. She studied pedagogy at the University of Hamburg, and then worked for three years as a social worker. She started illustrating books, but soon began writing her own stories, . During the late 1980s and the 1990s, Funke established herself in Germany with two children's series, namely the fantasy-oriented Gespensterjäger (Ghosthunters) and the Wilde Hühner (Wild Chicks) line of books.

Le uniche vere e proprie espansioni alla storia cinematografica sono le 'favole', che fanno da intermezzo alla vicenda di Ofelia, per il resto tende a ricalcare il film senza allargarsi davvero e in alcuni casi togliendo persino spessore ai personaggi più negativi, come il capitano. La scrittura è sicuramente evocativa, ma in alcuni punto l'ho trovato ripetitivo, motivo principale per cui ho dato 3 stelle).
Capisco che il target è più basso di quello del film da cui è tratto, ma al confronto mi ha lasciato un po' delusa. Vale comunque la pena di leggerlo.… (altro)
