Lesley Frost

I own quite a few Christmas anthologies, and this is perhaps the one with the most unusual selections. There are certainly a fair number of familiar pieces, particularly in the children's and carols sections; but where else would you find a Christmas selection from Les Miserables in the original French? (Alas, I don't read French.) Lesley Frost sought out such gems as a section from Chaucer's The Franklin's Tale, a bit of Silas Marner, and a Christmas play by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

I have the original 1929 edition, for which I paid $12.50; the lowest price on Bookfinder today is $18.00. A later 1935 edition includes an extra poem by Robert Frost (Lesley's father) and will run quite a bit more.… (altro)
