After having read a number of adventure stories featuring tramp steamers, I turned to another time period, and another ship type. The method of making a living seems to be endemic. Not an easy life, but occasionally quite profitable, and, of course occasionally dangerous. the bare bones can place all the romance in perspective, and it's therefore engrossing.
