I bought this some 20 years ago while on holiday in Crete and have finally read it. It's a powerful account of the War- the author went on to study theology, and a sense of Something Greater percolates tthrough the entire narative, even as he tells of the mass killings, the cold and hunger, the destruction.
Every entry is poetic and makes you stop and think. Not just another bleak autobiography of war. Truly beautiful.… (altro)
