Engrossing and chilling book that is an in-depth examination of one of the lesser-known Nazi figures, Arthur Greiser. Greiser was a prominent (if not dominant) figure in pre-war Danzig, playing a role in exacerbating tensions between Germany and Poland that led to the outbreak of World War II. He followed this with brutal rule in the "Warthegau," the area of Lodz and Poznan annexed by German after the conquest of Poland. The only weakness of the book is that, as the author notes, the destruction of war has limited the availability of certain materials from his time as the Gauleiter of Warthegau. Still and all, a keen insight into the politics of Nazi Germany, especially in the incessant internecine war between potentates.… (altro)
