34 months - yet another take on the "There was an old..." We love monsters but we really didn't grab this one up to read it over and over.

I absolutely love this book! It was very engaging and so easy to get children to be involved in the reading. The pictures are huge and the text rhymes making it a more fun read.

This book is a play off of "there was an old lady" but it is a good read. Good to talk about sequence and what comes first, second, third, etc. It is also good to use around halloween and to talk about different animals.

A fun twist on There was an Old Lady. The pictures are a great part of the story. This comes with a downloadable song that will hold everyones attention and have you singing along! I would use this book with PK-1st. I would use it with a monster theme or after reading There was an Old Lady. This is a fun predictable sing along book.

An old monster swallows lots of disgusting creatures such as ants, lizards and bats in this pattern book. One gross thing after another is swallowed until the monster tries to swallow a tiger that ends up eating him.

I think this would be fun for young children around Halloween or who are doing a unit on monsters. It's also a good pattern book that the kids could participate in when reading aloud.

An old monster swallows a tick and gets sick, then swallows some ants and gets ants in his pants. It all ends when he hears a lion roar and then he is no more. Patterned from the old lady who swallowed a fly song with rhyming words and ryhtmic text. Downloadable song available to go with story.

This book does not have an award. This book will be good for prek to 1st graders. It has a cute/entertaining story line for kids in that age range and its a fun song to sing. There was an old monster is about a monster who eats a tick and then gets sick from that tick and he eats another thing to try to kill the tick in his stomach. He eats a bat, a lizard, a human and a bear. Then he goes for the next big animal which is a lion and the lion ends up eating the monster. This deals with food chain, and things not to eat. You can sing and read this book to the students and for the older students they can get into what a food chain is and for the younger children they can draw monsters and they can say why eating those animals/bugs is bad.

There was an Old Monster, is a spin off of the book, There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. A funny looking monster swallows a tick and kept swallowing different animals to catch the previously swallowed animals until the unexpected happens.

I really liked this book and so did my son. He was on the edge of his seat and paid attention the entire time! It has a cute catchy song that is repeated through out the book and half way through the book my son was singing in it with me.

I would have my class draw and create their own monsters and they would have to draw their own animal food chain that the monster eats and share it their stories with the class.

A note on the cover of this book reads, "Sing Along! Download the song!" Unfortunately, the song is awesome, but cannot actually be downloaded. It can be heard on the website, http://www.scholastic.com/oldmonster , but not downloaded. What a disappointment.½
