Witness to Power was written by one of the main characters in the odd cast of villains in the Nixon White House. It's easy to discard these books as propaganda to clear themselves, but that's not really the case. Like John Dead Ehrlichmann seems to have realized that he took a wrong turn somewhere during his time working for Richard Nixon.

Besides that the book is full of petite histoire and chronique scandaleuse about the inner circle around Nixon. That makes it an easy and fun read.

And in the end it doesn't matter that the book might be a bit of an apology: the stories from and interactions with Nixon and his aides give a chilling view of a White House full of paranoia, bound to take a collective wrong turn at any moment.
