Subtitulado en español "Aventuras de un espía inglés en la Rusia roja", y titulado en inglés "Red dusk and the morrow : adventures and investigations in red Russia", narra en primera persona las andanzas del propio autor, que actuó en la Rusia zarista y revolucionaria como agente del M16 (SIS), y ayudó a organizar la fuga de rusos blancos que huían de las prisiones soviéticas hacia Finlandia. Por su gran pericia para disfrazarse y pasar desapercibido, a Dukes se le conoció también con el sobrenombre de "El hombre de las cien caras". Dukes fue una figura destacada en la introducción del yoga en occidente, y a día de hoy la única persona distinguida con el título de caballero ("Sir") por el rey de Inglaterra sobre méritos únicamente basados en el espionaje.

I didn't take much away from this, to be honest, but I did like that the authors often commented on the presence of Scottish people in Russian history – the sentence "The second marriage of Tsar Alexis, it will also be recalled, was to Natalia Naryshkina, the daughter of a hitherto obscure noble family being brought up in the westernised household of Artamon Matveev, whose wife was descended from the Scottish family of Hamilton" makes me think of a pair of society ladies, perhaps ambassadors' wives, turning to each other at a ball as Natalia passes, and one of them saying "Oh, she's a Hamilton, you know."… (altro)
