This is the only guidebook with success strategies for helping boys with dyslexia and reading difficulties.

"Why can't my son read" by Ellen Hurst and Michael Hurst is a practical view of dyslexia from a boy's view point. Having seen my granddaughter diagnosed and then put in a special school to further her education. I was ignorant to the fact that boys would also suffer.

This paperback book clarified why! Boys are kept back in school at twice the rate of girls, get expelled from preschool 5 times more often then girls, and do less homework and at a greater risk for low grades.

The reading process, along with exploring the interaction of reading , attention and executive functions are covered for parents reading their informative guide.

Specific check lists and guidelines for reading improvement are provided and if special education services are desired, a section covers this along with tricks of the trade to get and keep the process moving(becoming your son's advocate).
I highly recommend this book to all parents, school librarian s and those wanting to know about dyslexia in boys and girls.

This is a very detailed book about how to help boys in the younger school grades read, along with tips on how to get help if the boy potentially has a learning disability. The contents of this book can also apply to parents of young kids with normal reading abilities.

As a parent of a boy with dyslexia, this book really helped me see my sons difficulties in a new light. It gave me new tools and ideas to try to help him become a better reader, and I'm hoping it will help build a lifelong love of reading. What a fantastic, informative, easy to understand resource.

This book was very informative. I just started homeschooling this year and have had a few difficulties with my son's desire to read. This book really helped me understand some of the reasons for him not wanting to read. It gave me several tools I can use to help him with his reading and helped me with my frustration over my son's disinterest in reading. I really liked that the book gave step-by-step instructions on how to find the causes and solutions on reading ability/desire.
