Victor Dover

Very good account of a British para. His war started with the BEF and the evacuation of Dunkirk. He spent time training troops in central Africa, an off the beaten path part of WW2. Once accepted and trained as a paratrooper he fought thru N Africa, Sicily and Italy. His drop into Sicily was a microcosm of the airborne problems there. He landed badly on a volcano far from his destination. He spent nearly a month behind the lines surviving on apples and causing mischief. His account of Arnhem is especially poignant. He was remarkably lacking in bitterness given the fiasco. He spent the last part of the war as a POW.
He also gives a look at post war Palestine, a unique ground level perspective.
Lastly, he spent time in Malaya in counter terrorism. An active and dangerous career.
The book is very readable. It does seem to have been done in the latter part of his life with notes and references from his career used.
