101 black and white photographs from Robert Doisneau, beautifully capturing the foibles of people in their everyday lives in Paris and rural France. Some of these are absolute classics, and my favorites were:

Certainly worth leafing through slowly, and a great book for the coffee table.

"Robert Doisneau Paris" is een dik boek met foto's die de Franse fotograaf Doisneau heeft gemaakt in Parijs. Zoals wel voor meer fotoboeken geldt, zeggen ook hier de meeste foto's me niets, terwijl er ook een aantal prachtige foto's in staan. De mooiste foto in het boek vind ik die van een jongetje dat zijn hoofd uitsteekt tussen een stel kartonnen dozen op een bankje langs de straat.

In dit deel van Doisneau 15 zwart-witfoto's van scenes op straat. De meeste foto's zijn genomen in Parijs. Onder andere een foto van een schoolklas, een foto van twee hondjes en een foto van een kus voor de opera.

The underlying photography is fabulous; from whimsical to pointed, Doisneau managed to capture a lot of Paris street life. Taschen's ICONS series does a reasonable job of printing photographs while avoiding the costs of the high-end art books. Though this doesn't contain one of my favorite of his photographs (the couple dancing in the bar or nightclub), it's still recommended if you're a fan of black & white street photography.

Step back 60 years to one man's story of and view of Paris! Doisneau's composition and balance in his photos are inspiring!
