Elizabeth Calbry née Bennet at the age of 27, widowed, is determined to stay single. She meets several young men ready to console a young widow among them the young Fitzwillam Darcy.

It's several weeks since the Meryton Assembly and Darcy's comments about Elizabeth, and now he is heard insulting Mrs Bennet by Elizabeth at the home of Sir William Lucas. Struggling with his attraction to Elizabeth what can he say to get Elizabeth to consider him worthy of her affection.

With Elizabeth back at Longbourn after the Hunsford visit, she is overheard telling Jane of Darcys' proposal, by none other than Mrs Bennet. Mrs Bennets' scheming results in her travelling with the Gardiners and Elizabeth towards Pemberley.
Enjoyable enough to get me to read to the end though none of the characters were particularly appealing

While at Hunsford Elizabeth is befriended by Anne de Bourgh. She hopes that Elizabeth can help get her heart's desire - for Darcy to propose. But nothing ever goes to plan.
Enjoyable to read a story where Anne is not a shadow even though as you would expect she doesn't get her wish.
