Shadow at the Door by Jo Dixon is well written and well worth the read.
As part of the divorce agreement our heroin gets the house (complete with mortgage which has been bought by her ex husband. A clause in the contract states that if the mortgage repayments are not paid on time, the ex husband can foreclose and sell the property; what could possibly go wrong?
A series of seemingly unconnected events mean that finances are suddenly at critical levels.
In desperation she opens her home to a couple of women so she can get help with the mortgage payments through their rental payments; and finds that help comes in surprising ways as they investigate happenings in their ‘own way’.
Kept me guessing till the end.
An excellent book for those chilly evenings, or those sunny relaxing afternoons.

This was OK, I suppose. It was set in the present day with Olivia hiding out in Elouise's house after unwelcome social media attention/demonization, and then also in 1985/6 when Pippa and Jeremy were house-sitting there for Louise and a young man went missing. I liked the Olivia sections and the way her character repaired itself and gained determination. I never really warmed to Pippa, although I think we were meant to. The plot made sense, although it was slow to get going and then a lot was packed into the last third.… (altro)
