This is a kill and tell book by a former employee, who saw a chance to cash in on his brush with the rich and famous. The entire schlocky name-dropping circus is laid out for us in this pioneer work of biography. Le Chevalier Bayard was a classy performer on the tournament circuit and became a professional soldier, in the wars of the 1520's. His "Loyal Servitor" presumably had access and used it. The book reads well, though one wonders if a modern translation would be quite so suitable as a children's book.½
