This book is about a little girl who goes over to her friends house for a sleep over but is afraid to sleep in the dark. But she learns how to face her fears! This book is perfect to read to children who are afraid of something, the dark is a pretty common fear kids have so it may be a book to read to the whole class. Ages: 3-5. This book can be used to help children deal with difficult situations and emotions that may affect their young lives, especially when the child loses a loved one.
This is a book about a little girl- Laura- whose parents are getting a divorce and the struggle that Laura faces when her mother begins dating a man other than her father. I think this book perfectly captures what children feel and go through when their parents get a divorce.
Laura misses her dad and just wants him to come back home. When both her mother and father attend a play that she's in she thinks, "maybe they'll make up!" Then, one night, her mother brings over a visitor- a man. Laura doesn't like this and thinks, "what about dad?" Laura is rude and naughty when this new man is over. When having dinner, Laura thinks, "that man is sitting in Dad's place; he shouldn't be there." But, deep down, she actually likes this new man and is torn because she keeps thinking about her dad and feels very confused. The book has a happy ending, as Laura's problem- feeling like she may betray her dad by liking the new man- gets solved.
I think this book is very relatable to children that may be experiencing similar situations. However, although I can't put my finger on it, the books that I've read by author Ann de Bode just seem to miss the mark for me. I would look for another book on the topic of divorce before utilizing this one.… (altro)

a series of vignettes of life on an urban street (probably Antwerp) where everyone has character without veering into thoughtless stereotypes, with everyone looking forward to the street party at the end. (And then I had to go back and look for the hidden gnome in each picture.) Loved it and will look out for other work by this artist.… (altro)
