It's a good young-adult novel. It's a fast read, and it makes you want to keep reading. :)

When I was in middle school, my best friend (or, well, one of them) was a boy. At some point, I randomly checked this book out from the library and fell in love. It was a little raunchy, a little silly and everything I wanted to be. I lent it to my best friend, and he loved it to. It became 'our book' and when in high school, when we were going to different schools, I bought two copies of this book, one for him to write in and give back to me, and I would do the same for him. We each still have our copies. Reading this again, it is kind of ... wooden. And predictable. But damn if it didn't make me cry all over again. I thank my close friend for not dying at 17.

WHY it's taken me over 15 years to read the rest of the books written by the author of the book I couldn't get enough of in middle school (Say Goodnight, Gracie) I don't know (though I suspect it has something to do with they're not available in every library - had to order this one up from Central). But honestly I wasn't missing much. The writing is still fun here, but the dialogue doesn't quite fit (I mean, what 17 year old actually says these kinds of things). This book is about a girl after her mom committed suicide, and her internship at a late night comedy show. Deaver seems to like to write about death. Chicago Blues, another Deaver book, just arrived from Central a couple nights ago, so we'll see what that one's about.

I'm not at all sure that if you gave an 11 year old to her 17 year old sister who is an early university student studying art because their mom is an alcoholic and their dad is on the road playing music that this is actually how things would turn out - but it's an entertaining and short read and enjoyable enough. Especially since the narrating character creates miniature rooms, which is pretty neat. I have two more books of this author's to go and - can you believe it - none of the five libraries I have cards to carry them, so I ordered them cheap off of Amazon to fill out my free shipping need. I'll get to them ... eventually, but I am notorious for not reading books I own.

I didn't think this book was very good, but I think some of my 8th graders might enjoy it. It just felt like a CSI or Law and Order show; I've seen it a million times and therefore is overdone and uninteresting.

Jimmy and Morgan have been friends all of their lives. After seventeen years of friendship, the two know everything about each other. There is no one in the world that knows as much about Morgan as Jimmy does. He knows how to calm her, how to make her brave, and how to make her laugh.

But after Jimmy is killed in a car crash, Morgan has a big void in her life -- one that used to be occupied by Jimmy's friendship.

The road to recovery is hard for Morgan. She doesn't know how she can live without Jimmy, this constant she's had her whole life. With the help of her parents, her aunt, Jimmy's parents, and a school friend, Morgan finally comes to cope with Jimmy's death.

Julie Reece Deaver writes a very touching story about losing a best friend. While hopefully readers never have to relate to this event, nevertheless, it is very touching and helps readers understand the importance of friendship and love.

SAY GOODNIGHT, GRACIE is a story to stay with readers for a lifetime.

this book, though it will keep its readers interested, is not very accurate. it tells the story of a teenage girl who's mind has created an inner world in order to protect her from the horror that resides in her past. however, this 'world' begins to cause problems when she and her mother go to chicago for the summer. while in chicago, her world sucks her away from reality, but her body remains in reality and looks as if it is in a daydream state. i wish reality worked this way and we could all reside in our own inner worlds, however, it is not so. we have to face reality and the horrors it may contain. jamie here is lucky, she was able to avoid her past untill her therapist forces her to face it and cope with it. even though she was able to cope, not everyone would be able to and that could cause some serious problems. i think the fact that her mind created an inner world for her in the first place was partially her mother's fault. jamie was not abe to share her past with her mother when it originally happened because they were not very close to each other. her mother was always pulled away to work and so she didnt have much time left for jamie. then, once jamie's mind had created this inner world for her, jamie and her mother drifted farther and farther apart. however, i do not believe that this happening was entirely her mother's fault. im not trying to blame her mother, just point out the fact that it is partially her fault.

Haunting tale of a girl who is living in her own reality, not in everyone else’s. While reading this book I actually felt dizzy because of her perceptions, yet I kept thinking that the plot was simplistic and predictable. When it was all said and done, this story kept me interested.

Jamie has a very hard time fitting in to her school. Her only companion is her sort-of boyfriend, Webb, whom she met several years ago. She later consults a psychologist, who helps her. It turns out that she has a secret long ago, deep and buried, and she's trapped into it. She struggles to find her way through reality. And there is only one way out...

A very good book with an interesting twist. the ending is very surprising.

Another one of my favorite books as a teen. Deaver's character development is real and believable. The reader cries right along with the main character. Also brings home the idea of death and loss in a real way.

This is a little story that I came across in a second hand book shop. It's funny and draws you in willingly then, just as you begin to care about the characters it becomes very very sad. Having read it repeatedly over fifteen years it always makes me smile and never fails to make me cry.
