After some thought, it seems to me that this story has the wrong target audience. It's about the importance of making a name for ourselves---doing something in the world---as well as understanding who we are and what is our place in the world---home. NEEDS WORK. Time is meaningless without a sense of self - our name - and a sense of place - our home. TarryTown is a bit like heaven or Shabbat, except that it is wrong! Children should have names - know who they are? - and homes (the story assumes that their homes are good). I assume this means that living and working in the real world is better than playing in a fantasy land all the time. The one day that the old man offers is without end - eternity in a day like Heschel?
The riddles didn't make sense to me. Perhaps if this were a poem in a book for adults?

The illustrations are nicely colorful, but the Wagon Man is creepy (as he should be, I suppose).

This is a deliciously sarcastic poem w/ wonderful pictures. It points out all that is beautiful by referring to it as ugly or worse.
