While in college, Morton Cooper lost his voice. Two well-meaning professors had advised him to use a deep-throated voice to replace his own nasal-sounding voice. Soon, he developed laryngitis, tired voice, and habitual throat clearing, with his voice becoming increasingly inaudible. After seeing 12 mostra altro doctors about his problem, the 13th diagnosed a misused speaking voice. Following several months of voice training, Cooper decided to specialize in speech and the speaking voice. Dr. Cooper holds a Bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College, a Master's degree from Indiana University, and a Doctoral degree from UCLA. He was the director of the voice and speech clinic at UCLA Medical Center, and a clinical assistant professor of the head and neck division, also at UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Cooper has written several books, including Modern Techniques of Vocal Rehabilitation, which has been used worldwide as a college textbook for more than 15 years. Some other notable works include Change Your Voice, Change Your Life; Winning With Your Voice; and Committing Voice Suicide. Dr. Cooper travels extensively as a speaker and has appeared on many television talk shows, including the Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, and Good Morning, America. Quicky tie-in to The Munsters TV show. Appears to have been written before production of the show was very far along, but sometime after the filming of the initial pilot. Unlike the initial pilot, the characters are as established in the show, but backstory and relationships don't match the continuity developed throughout the series. The book's plot is episodic, though the various episodes are pretty generic and are not related to those that were broadcast. At best the book bears a pretty superficial relationship to the TV series.… (altro)

Faded playwright John Alcott Rawlie is experiencing a dark night of the soul--as is almost everyone else in this compelling claustrophobic novel. Rawlie's latest play, a musical, is about to open and he is already planning to slash his wrists after the reviews come back. With the opening of the musical the next night, instead of sleeping, Rawlie is on a drinking binge, filled with flashbacks of his two marriages. Meanwhile, his composer is off looking for his errant wife, who may have run off with the play's cowboy leading man. All of this may sound a bit silly, but Cooper carries it off very well indeed. And he can write. One scene of violence is visceral enough to almost make you sick. I won't spoil the rest of the story for you. If you come across this book in the bottom of a dusty box from someone's attic, by all means rescue it and read it. It deserves a good home.… (altro)
