On the beach without a ship, Donland is sent to rescue a mystery man in the Caribbean. Pirates, traitors, and an inept captain must be overcome to carry out his mission.

Donlon is sent on a diplomatic fact-finding mission, with virtually unlimited Admiralty power to intervene and command. The East India Company and its supporters are the targets. Intervention, document retrieval, abandonment, his rescue, and return require all the authority he has been given. All in all; a good entry in this thin but interesting series.
