David Clewell is the author of a dozen books of poetry, including Taken Somehow by Surprise, The Low End of Higher Things, and Now We're Getting Somewhere. He is a former poet laureate of Missouri and has also worked as a wrestler, circus laborer, and boardwalk weight-guesser. Room to Breathe : Poems di David Clewell

Meandering among the many non uplifting poems,

these are my favorites:

the evocative "Helping Me Get By,"

those who "warm the house" in "Solstice: This House is Yours,"

the trains, the dogs, and the winter of "Anonymous in this Season,"

and, coincidentally since I'm reading Moby-dick again,

"The Dangers Inherent in Reading the Classics."

- all keepers.

Wanting to see if he had continued to write more after leaving Madison, Wisconsin,
I sadly found that he had died - as the Poet Laureate of Missouri!… (altro)
