Scrap Republic' by Emily Cier is a new type of scrap quilt book. This book really focuses on color. The colors used usually range from light to dark in a quilt and the colors are really gorgeous! The first section of the book is for the Weekend Stasher, and the second section is for the I-Have-Nothing-to-Hide-Anymore Stasher, which is where is where I belong. For each quilt, there is a section for quilters with a stash, and another section for quilters who don't have a stash (yet!), and are trying to start one or want just enough fabric for one quilt. 'Scrap Republic' gives many choices for piecing your scrap quilt. Cier's book offers many choices for using up the scraps and the freedom from quilt rules is very exciting! Right now, quilting in a rainbow of colors is what I am excited about, and this new book has me itching to get started on another scrap quilt, or two.

Quilt Remix by Emily Cier is an interesting book. There are mulitple quilt designs, originating from classic quilt patterns. Each pattern has a chart for each size of quilt, and the fabric requirements and cutting chart. There are a few quilts I really like: The Ohio Star made from strip sets; and Flying Geese made with many, many flying geese-beginning with very small geese and all the way up to a few large ones. Another quilt that I really like is called Pinwheel. The Pinwheel blocks are made into a traditional pinwheel block and then, cut into circles. I can imagine all kinds of things I would like to make using these blocks!

There are a couple of quilts in the book that I just shook my head at: A wonky Irish Chain made with multiple wonky pieces that is labeled for a beginner; and a wonky Dresden plate made with sharp angles. These two quilts seem to be more work than the original patterns, but if you are going for a more artsy style, some of these quilts are for you.

Though Quilt Remix gives instructions on all of the quilting steps, I would not recommend this book for a new, beginning quilter. A quilter that is ready for a little challenge and some interesting effects will really enjoy this book!
