The final chapter is very helpful in formulating a personal understanding of how the whole of Christian scripture functions. He also refrained during that chapter from insisting on using words that most reader will not have in even their passive vocabularies.
Most of the book follows the history of Christian exegesis of Isaiah, showing strengths and weaknesses of the various periods. The book was aimed at people with more experience of theological history than I have, but I was able to get a lot out of it.
I believe that I purchased this based on a recommendation from Walter Moberly. It has led to a double reread of Isaiah, using the commentary of Ulrich Berges.… (altro)

This book is #27 in a series of monographs designed to provide clergy and laity the best works in Biblical scholarship both in this country and abroad. The volumes in this series are planned to further the study of Biblical theology within the Church. Based on historical and literary research, the primary aim of the series is to set out more clearly the nature of Biblical faith as a living phenomenon of vital significance for the contemporary Christian.
I read this for a seminary class on Isaiah. It is a commentary I'll go back to regularly when working on Isaiah texts even thought I have mixed opinions about some of his interpretations.
