I have loved this series, but #11 was a disappointment. I used to particularly enjoy the Josh/Maeve will they/won't they? and I really thought it had been resolved positively (ie they will!) at the end of # 10. Here however Josh was cold and distant and Maeve spent the entire book agonizing about him in a very teenage girl sort of way. It felt extremely unprofessional and drew in the entire team when they were supposed to be working. The idea that Josh's boss would rearrange work responsibilities on request from his girlfriend seems unlikely too. This whole situation is no longer the fun undercurrent it used to be. It pains me to say it, but Maeve should indeed apply for a transfer, get her own place and develop some other interests.

As for the actual plot, it had potential, but made little sense if you really think about it. There was more work that should have been done developing and explaining characters' motivations, except the author was too busy writing about Josh and Maeve's colleagues staging interventions for them when they should have been working.

Disappointing, but I did get it for 99c, so there's that.

Sixteen years ago Rosalie Marshall disappeared from her home and vanished without trace. Her adoptive parents spent most of their money looking for her and now they have been found dead. Maeve Kerrigan realises that this is a double murder, not the murder suicide it first appears, and that it is linked with the missing girl. However the Marshall family is complex and they, and the others linked to them, have a lot of secrets. Maeve is also dealing with the increasing attraction between her and Josh Derwent which could derail the investigation.
This is such a solid set of police procedurals and the latest episode does not disappoint. The sexual tension is cranked right up but does not detract from a solid, if rather far-fetched, plot. The characterisation is just right and the twists are unexpected. It may be a police procedural but Casey knows how to write one which is gripping.
