I selected this book off a rack because I found that it spoke about the environmnet surrounding the game in general terms rather than getting bogged down in specifics. The author favors selective, agressive play; but above all being aware of the table conditions and adjusting your play accordingly.

Carson writes as a career poker player; that is to say, not very well. While the sections of the book are well laid out, the flow between paragraphs and items are, in several instances, not so well done. Phrases and terms are gratuitously used before being well defined. He jumps into specific examples and talks about them both vaguely and excessively specifically at the same time; as a novice player, I get the feeling that I would need more experience and study with other resources to get the maximum out of this book; however I question whether the book would be a good supplement to the necessary study it seems to require.

Over all the book forced me to think about my game in a different way than I had been; however my game was so bad that practically any book would have given me the necessary attitude adjustment I needed.

I wouldn't recommend the book to others.
