An unnamed mother bear and her unnamed cub spend a day together having fun, doing things like riding bikes together, going to storytime at the library, making music, and reading together as they prepare and eat dinner.

This is a sweet book that would be nice for a Mother's Day read in a preschool or library setting, or for a mother and her child(ren) to read together at any time, particularly for a cozy lapsit reading. The jacket flap suggests this book is for ages 4-8, but I would suggest more like ages 2-6 as ideal.

I appreciated the love for libraries with the storytime scenes, but it's not surprising given that the author is a library director. The other activities the mother and gender-less child share together look like good clean fun, although obviously not every mother and child(ren) will share them. For instance, when I was reading this with my niece, we both chuckled at the idea of her mother liking to ride a bicycle (she doesn't).

The illustrations are gentle and sweet, fitting with the book as a whole. The two main animals don't really look like bears to me personally (nor to my niece), so I wouldn't have realized what they were without the explanation on the jacket flap. As all the characters are animals, there's no real diversity to speak of, although there is one character in the storytime setting who wears glasses and another who uses a wheelchair.… (altro)
