Breve biografia
Priscilla L. Buckley, known as Pitts, was the third of 10 children of William Frank Buckley, an oil executive, and his wife Aloïse, and was raised in a 30-room mansion in Sharon, Connecticut. She was the older sister of William F. Buckley, Jr., and Senator James L. Buckley. She graduated from Smith College in 1943 with a bachelor’s degree in history, and got a job with the news service United Press.
After a short stint with the Central Intelligence Agency, preparing reports on foreign operations, she rejoined United Press as a reporter in the Paris bureau. In 1956, the year after National Review was founded, she returned to the USA to work for the magazine at her brother’s request. After the original managing editor retired, Miss Buckley got the post, and held it for many years. She then was a senior editor at the magazine until her retirement in 1999. She wrote two volumes of memoirs, String of Pearls: On the News Beat in New York and Paris (2001), and Living It Up With National Review (2005).
