I was never a Deadhead and kinda lost touch with the band after Workingman's Dead, so most of this was new to me. However, it's a fascinating look at the creative process that stayed largely intact over 5 decades and the personalities that made it all happen. It made me want to find a lot of this music and give it a listen, and that's pretty high praise for the book.

Using a narrative writing style, Browne revisits the year 1970, my first year in college, when a raft of my high school favorite bands broke up. He tells each band's story in the context of their inner dynamics, their occasional overlapping experiences, and the political and cultural events of that year. Probably a good book for anyone who can still sing the lyrics to "Fire and Rain."

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young was written by the definitive lover of their music. The book flips back and forth discussing every inch of the group's forming and individuals who comprise it. A lot of loving research was done in order to write this book but unfortunately after awhile it just gets boring to the reader. Even as a fan of the rock group, it is just too detailed and not necessary. Three stars were given in this review.

Author looked back and gave great information about the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, James Taylor and CSNY in 1970. Lots of really interesting nuggets I had never learned or knew of before. Loved all the background information. What a really cool time in music.
