Felix Brooks

I have read a LOT of romance novels, and recently they've been mostly M/M romances. I'd read an ARC of Painting the Cowboy by this author and given my honest review, so I was offered this one as well. Here is my honest review.

The writing is better, but there's still work needed.

This is a sweet story, and I finished reading it, so the writing's acceptable enough. But I found the characters rather flat. Part of the reason is simple research. There are bodyguard details missing and musician details missing that even I, without researching, could've added. (I am neither a bodyguard nor a musician, but I am a voracious reader, for what that's worth). Worse, however, is the habit of telling rather than showing. "He felt rejected" is telling, "He cringed away" is showing. It allows the reader to realize what's happening in an emotional connection with the character.
