Short, clear sentences explain how clouds form and how rain and hail are formed. Vocabulary: water droplets, water vapor, evaporation, condensation.

No back matter. There is a newer edition of this book.

Very satisfying. Recognized it as soon as I saw it on Internet Archive. From 1984, read and re-read this a few times and was helpful in a few science papers, including one I did on black holes that I was proud of in 10th grade -- right around the time Hawking made "A Brief History of Time" -- but my library didn't have that yet.

And... I never heard of Steven Hawking until AFTER I did my high school black hole research. This book didn't mention him. Two encyclopedias in my public library didn't mention him, neither did the set I had at home.

This incredible book is explains what magnet is, describes interesting experiments to determine whether something is magnetic or not in simple terms. I really enjoyed reading it, and I think it is very important that elementary school children read it. Magnetism is a very important area of Physics. This book could inspire a lot of good future scientists!

A great teaching book for kids and adults alike. This book talks about the sun, it's proximity to us its relative size to us, it's temperature and how many miles across it is. Filled with fascinating facts and beautiful illustrations that had my children asking questions all throughout the read.

This book was about the seasons. The book talks about the seasons changing, the Earth's rotation, and the sun. I liked that this book had an experiment in it, so readers can see how the sun (flashlight) effects the rotation of the Earth (foam ball).

This easy to read picture book explains the various changes the Moon goes through as it orbits the Earth. This is a perfect mentor text to use when teaching students about the phases of the moon, depicting each phase of the moon ad explaining it in detail with colorful illustrations. This text is a great mentor text to a science teacher and a science classroom library.

Oh what a delight this book is! It contains the sounds, the pretty pictures and the small pieces of information peppered here and there that makes the subject of Rain come alive and endear to the readers. The author has successfully delivered scientific information in a very colorful, simple and interesting manner. Another commendable aspect of the book is the ethnic tolerance that the author has portrayed in the book by the creation of four children of varying racial descent –redhead, curly dark brown, blonde and Asian black. That’s a fantastic example to set for the children! The illustrations are vivid, colourful and depict fun activities through which kids can learn about the topic! Word Art has been employed to emphasize on certain words, like while explaining gloomy appearance of stormy clouds, the word “Darkened” has been made black in bold. Such visual stimulation will boost a child’s mind. The book is a very helpful, beginner’s learning manual for kids till the age of 9. The experiments described can also be executed in a classroom environment .I would strongly recommend the book.

The science behind hurricanes and wind patterns are complicated (in my opinion), so I feel like this book would be good to read in chunks. If all of it was read in one sitting, the students might not get everything out of it. I felt like there was a lot of information that was very useful but could be split up. I really liked the illustrations. I love watercolor, so having that in an information book was really cool. I'm used to seeing photographs in information books but I like the incorporation of watercolor.

This book provides a lot of information about the seasons and why they happen. The book even incorporates an activity that the students can do to get a better understanding of the seasons and why they change. I really thought the activity was a great idea, and I will do it in my classroom. I think it will help the students understand the seasons and they won't be cooped up at their desk all day. I will read the book first to introduce the lesson and then have the students work with a partner to do the activity. This was a great book.

This book is an informational text in the form of narrative that tells stories of different historical events when volcanoes erupted such as Pompeii. It would best be used for a more fluent reader because of its complex storyline, information, vocabulary, and syntax. It would be great for guided reading because the text is challenging and there are many topics to discuss related to it. Students may need help with the many historical contexts to accumulate a better understanding of the text.
