This isn't a stuff it in your pocket and use it on the hill type of guide. Rather, it is a sit at home and use it for reference and inspiration book. The information is concise and clear, as are the sketch maps of routes. The photos are the best part, though, showing the Highlands and Islands in all seasons and all their glory.
This is the new 2006 edition of the classic guide to the highest mountains of Scotland. Mountains over 3000 feet above sea level are known as Munros, and there are many people who make it a sport to climb all 284 of them. Most can be hiked by fit walkers with no technical equipment, following the directions in this guide. There is one that requires rock-climbing.
