Satira na americký pohřební průmysl. Ukazuje jednu z charakteristických vlastností amerického způsobu života – za každou cenu všechno přeměnit v peníze, bez rozpaků obchodovat i s lidskou bolestí a utrpením. Dějovou osnovou románu je příběh majitele malého pohřebního ústavu Toma Hope a jeho syna Lincolna. Tom považuje pohřbívání za nutné zlo, ale jeho syn vybuduje ze skomírajícího ústavu velkolepý podnik, který ovlivní nejen poslední cestu Američanů, ale i jejich život.… (altro)
Not a light, fun read in spite of its title, but rather an extremely prescient book. Belfrage's comments about the Middle East feel timely even now in their perceptiveness if not in all the details (it has, after all, been over 70 years). A fascinating read.
