This is a lovely little children's adaptation of the very famous Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

I was so thrilled to see an adaption of this novel! I absolutely love retellings of classics. This book makes Pride and Prejudice easier to read - it not only is designed for younger readers, but it also has pictures. I think this book has quite the charm for summarizing the book and making it fun. I'm sure at least a few readers will be interested enough to pick up the classic.

Four out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sweet Cherry Publishing for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

This is a very short version of Pride and Prejudice that would probably be suitable for those under 10. As an introduction to Jane Austen's most famous work, it succeeds wonderfully. It abbreviates the story but retains some of the humor and vocabulary of the original. Although it has to summarize a lot, it slows down as needed to add detail to the important moments. Young readers could use this book as a bridge to watching one of the adaptations, or to reading the original when they feel ready.

There are also really charming illustrations in this version!

Thanks to NetGalley and Sweet Cherry Publishing for this digital review copy.

I love books that introduce children to the great classics.

My own introduction to the classics was through the Classics Illustrated Comic Books. My large collection included favorites The Count of Monte Cristo, Les Miserables, Lord Jim, Ivanhoe, and Jane Eyre. By the time I was eleven I was tackling the novels themselves. When our son was growing up I found abridged paperbacks of the classics which inspired him to read his favorites which included H. G. Wells and Jack London.

What could be better than Jane Austen for young readers!

Pride and Prejudice has been adapted as plays and for movies and television since at least 1890 according to Devoney Looser in The Making of Jane Austen. The bare bones of the plot sequence is so well known by nearly everyone.

This Easy Classics book includes all the expected scenes. But this retelling also catches Austen's irony.

Chapter 1 begins with, of course, Mrs. Bennet telling her husband about the rich man who has moved into the neighborhood a good news. Mr. Bennet is described as reading his newspaper and "growing tired of his wife's excitement." Proclaiming that their daughters may benefit because the single man "must want a wife" causes Mr. Bennett to exchange a smile with Lizzy.

Pride and Prejudice is part of the Jane Austen Children's Stories which includes Emma, Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park, Sense and Sensibility, Persuasion, and Love and Friendship. The UK edition includes a free audio book download. The series is suitable for children through Middle School.

What a wonderful resource!

The book is fully illustrated.

I was given a free ebook by the publisher through NetGalley. My review is fair and unbiased.

The Girls aren't just any girls, they are Tommako, Jessie, Tye and Sofia! Inside the "Cover" you will learn their differences, all the things they like to do together, their "favorites", snack recipes for "Movie Night" with other great movie and snack ideas, plus additional recipes for beauty or pampering. There are many activates from question answer fun to several craft ideas and instructions....All beautifully illustrated by Katy Jackson.!
This quality Flex board book concludes with "How to Get To the Top" and complete book index.
I feel the Publisher's recommended age is too young for this book. It would definitely need "older girl" or adult assistance for any younger than eight years of age.
This is the perfect book for Children or YA book Clubs, for that perfect gift for a friend, or just for having for reference...Anywhere young girls between ages 7 & 13 are ! (I even like some of the ideas for myself!)
This is definitely a keeper!
