Not sure I would agree that the Angevins continued as a dynasty that ruled much of Europe after John. The logic of the author could be applied to the Dukes of Normandy etc. Still, an interesting read that takes a sweeping overview of the medieval dramas, conquests, intriguing, and meddling so common amongst the ruling elite. I learned quite a lot from this book. It is well-written and researched. A pity about the central premise.

Wonderful collection of the web-comic Pacificators, which is free to read online. The author only made 1 publication/run and it is now out of print.
It is clear this is directly from the web-publication, as it sometimes refers to things online, which are not in the book.
The author is deaf, so English is his second language. You notice this in typos and grammar. It does improve over the series, so don't judge the grammar and spelling of this one issue alone!

Deep in the Amazon Rainforest, a field biologist counting insects and questioning the importance of her work stumbles upon a hidden laboratory fenced in with barb wire and a veil of secrecy. When she witnesses a chimpanzee behaving oddly, building a altar of some sort and then writing words in the dirt with a stick, she realizes this could be an opportunity of a lifetime.

Cue the incredibly derivative plot. Shady scientists, hyper-intelligent apes, humans at the mercy of their own creation, and so on. There's plenty of Planet of the Apes and Frankenstein here, with all the hundreds of pages of excess fluffy thriller additive to make it all the more 'readable.' There's adventure in an exotic locale, disastrous implications, a love story, horrible monsters, theological meanderings, and perhaps some animal rights commentary if you read into it a bit. Yep, all that, and not done horribly either, although it still left the mundane taste of a cheap thriller in my mind after completing it. Meh. I'd rather read science non-thrillers, personally. The science alone is often thrilling enough, I can do without the gun fights and chase scenes.… (altro)

Good premise and great potential that didn't go anywhere. Too many unclear motivations and unanswered questions. In my opinion this book was not finished, it just stopped with lots of loose ends. It's sad, because it had the potential to be a really good book, but ended up a frustrating story.
