My gosh, Kendra Adachi just gets me. You know how in some self-help/advice books, you can’t relate to any of the scenarios provided or you roll your eyes at how impractical the suggestions are for your life? Not only does Kendra constantly give “maybe you” scenarios that are *exactly* my life, but she also encourages readers and listeners to personalize any of her advice to fit their own preferences, seasons, and needs. The Lazy Genius methods are such that I think I can actually sustain them in my home, specifically in the kitchen. I’m excited about planning, organizing, and curating a space I enjoy being in that meets my family’s needs.… (altro)

I have never felt so seen by a self-help book.

I’m not a huge fan of the self-help genre. I almost didn’t read this one because the title seemed a little cheesy at first. But oh, my goodness, I felt this—all of it—on a deep personal level. The author’s voice and struggles resonated so directly with me that it was almost scary. And I came away from the read with several actionable principles and ideas to try to improve different areas of my life and home. I highly recommend this one.… (altro)

This book really resonated with me! I am definitely the kind of person always chasing systems and products to “optimize” my life. This book was a good reminder to “embrace what matters and ditch what doesn’t.” It was also a nice reminder that I’ve grown because I’ve already adopted some of the principles of this book.

As always with self-help, you take what you like and leave the rest. This book had a little more Christian stuff than I expected, but that’s part of the author’s genuine experience and it wasn’t hard to set aside. I am a new mom, so I appreciated the case studies about parenting, but non-parents would likely not find it as relevant.

It was a quick and easy read with digestible sections and small action steps in each chapter. I definitely recommend this if you’re a self-help fan or are looking for a little reset.

If you are in her target audience, this is likely a helpful book. I found it too declarative. Do this. Don't do that.

And, I am not affluent as I think she expects her audience to be. My best example of this is the expectation that you have a big enough kitchen to have a dedicated dirty dishes zone that you "don't put anything else in ever". Right. I have exactly 2.5 feet of counter space, period. A dirty dishes zone is a good idea. Assuming that there is enough space to keep it clear of everything else, not so much.… (altro)
