Mostly history based on literature but the author also dares to challenge the idea of the cherry blossoms as male which had grown with militarism and makes it clear that they were traditionally female. At the same time he does point out they are best wnjoyed en masse, unlike the Occident with their roses enjoyed as individual flowers, and thus keeps in good graces with the philosophy of his time and place, or, rather the authorities/censors in war-time (see my cherry blossom epiphany for more)
