Each stitch is grouped into sections that include: canvas work, crewel work, hardanger, pulled work, stumpwork and much more. Each stitch includes close-up, detailed color photographs, a full-color working diagram, and accurate written instructions. Includes some really awesome examples that are super inspiring! However, as I'm a definite beginner (as in, I've never actually embroidered anything), I found this to be a little intimidating. I think I need to start with a very simple, beginners-only type of book.

I received this book free through Goodreads First Reads.

I love to embroider and have worn out two paperback copies of book with many different stitches. A childhood friend taught me freestyle embroidery when I was eight years old. I will never have to buy another embroidery reference because this book has it all. It is bound like a photo album and will be able to stand many years of browsing.

It is well organized with a table of contents and index. It is also richly illustrated and starts off with a short history of embroidery, has a great section of the material and equipment needed and even answered some of the questions that I had about my grandmother's embroidery.

This book is great for beginners to people who have embroidered for many years. It has a great variety of kinds of embroidery including some that I have never tried, like stump work. Each type of embroidery work uses different kinds of stiches and there are instructions and illustrations on how to do all of them. In the back of the book there is a big section of projects to try.

I love this book so much, it could not be better.

I highly recommend this book to all who love to embroider and to those looking for a great gift t for someone who does.

Even though, I received this book as a win from FirstReads but that in no way influenced my thoughts or feelings of this book. ( )
