Fiction. Mystery. HTML:First in a new mystery series that will have readers stitching-and itching for more

When Marcy Singer opens an embroidery specialty shop in quaint Tallulah Falls, Oregon, she throws a soiree and a Stitch-In. Soon, Marcy's sign- up sheet for embroidery classes fills up and everyone in town seems willing to raise a glass-or a needle-to support the newly-opened Seven Year Stitch.

Then Marcy finds the shop's previous tenant dead in the store-room, a message scratched with a tapestry needle on the wall beside him. Now Marcy's shop has become a crime scene, and she's the prime suspect. She'll have to find the killer before someone puts a final stitch in her.

This is the first book in the Embroidery Mysteries with Marcy Singer who leave behind San Francisco too open an embroidery shop in a coastal tine in Oregon.

As with most cozy mysteries this is very much a character driven story vs. a serious mystery story and found it to be very enjoyable, fluffy and fun.

I liked how the mystery was introduced and how it gave a valid reason for our lead character to be involved in trying to solve it (that is often the weakest part of a cozy) and I found the resolution to be solid and believable.
I don't know enough about embroidery to know how accurate it was, but I enjoy crafting in general and I appreciated those elements in the story, as well as the small details behind setting up and running a shop.

I also really enjoyed getting to know the town and its citizens, it is the cast of characters that makes or breaks a cozy after all and I really found myself enjoying the relationships that developed throughout the story. Except for one thing. And for me it's a dozy and I am going to spoil something here. There is a live triangle and it's not resolved by the end of the story. I HATE love triangles. I hope going forward it won't play a large role and will be resolved quickly

I am very much enjoying reading the next book in the series. ( )

Great series starter, there were so many possible culprits. ( )

I enjoyed this book much more than I expected to, as I'm not a big fan of embroidery. The story was interesting and the author did a great job with character and setting development. I'll definitely be looking forward to the next book. ( )

Marcy Singer has a regular old 9 to 5 accounting job in San Francisco but her college roommate, Sadie, has better ideas. She lures Marcy to the tranquil town of Tallaluah Falls, OR to realize her secret dream of opening a needlework shop. The location is perfect, right next store to Sadie's Coffee shop.

But the grand opening event doesn't go exactly as planned when the old tenant shows up drunk and causes a disturbance. Things get worse when the next morning Marcy discovers him dead in her storeroom.

The flow of this cozy mystery was great - just the right blend of introduction to the characters and locale with the clues woven in to solve the mystery. Looking forward to the next installment. ( )

Marcy Singer allows herself to be persuaded by her best friend to leave her corporate job in San Francisco and open a needlework shop in Tallulah Falls, Oregon. Her opening day takes an unexpected turn when she discovers the murdered body of the shop's former tenant in the storeroom. He had just enough time before his death to leave a cryptic message. Even though the message makes no sense to Marcy, the fact that she's seen it puts her in danger. Will she get to the bottom of the mystery in time to save herself from becoming the next victim?

This is a promising start for a cozy series. The characters and setting are appealing. I'm partial to the librarian who is one of the secondary characters in the series. Marcy didn't do a lot of the foolish things that get many cozy heroines into trouble, and she viewed the police as allies rather than adversaries. This is a series I'm sure I'll continue to read.

Readers hoping for a read-alike for Monica Ferris's Crewel World series should be aware that needlework isn't as integral to the plot in this series. ( )
